California Dreamin' by The Mommas and the Pappas

So I had a conversation with Melissa over the weekend about the greatest songs of all time. Mel has her list of top five, but I just can't seem to get there. There are so many songs to choose from...good, bad, happy, sad, and really really ugly.

So here's the challenge...while I don't expect you to be able to narrow it down to five like Mel did, just post one or two of your all time favorites and I'll compile a list. I'm starting with California Dreamin'. Love that song!

Okay, let me clarify the rules here...there will, under no kind of sobriety or lack thereof, be any making fun of anybody's choice of song. Okay?

But seriously...Ozzy Osbourne? Without chemical enhancement? Really?

"Your all I need" by Method Man featuring Mary J. Blige

Yes this is a ghetto song, but I have always loved it. I do not agree with everything in the lyrics, however I have included the lyrics for your reading pleasure. Miss you much Ms. Kel!!

Shorty I'm there for you anytime you need me
For real girl, it's me in your world, believe me
Nuttin make a man feel better than a woman
Queen with a crown that be down for whatever
There are few things that's forever, my lady
We can make war or make babies
Back when I was nothin
You made a brother feel like he was somethin
That's why I'm with you to this day boo no frontin
Even when the skies were gray
You would rub me on my back and say "Baby it'll be okay"
Now that's real to a brother like me baby
Never ever give my cootie away and keep it tight aight
And I'ma walk these dogs so we can live
In a fat ass crib with thousands of kids
Word life you don't need a ring to be my wife
Just be there for me and I'ma make sure we
Be livin in the effin lap of luxury
I'm realizing that you didn't have to funk wit me
But you did, now I'm going all out kid
And I got mad love to give, you my nigga

[Chorus 2X]

[Interlude: Mary J. Blige]

Like sweet morning dew
I took one look at you
And it was plain to see
You were my destiny
With you I'll spend my time
I'll dedicate my life
I'll sacrifice for you
Dedicate my life for you

[Verse Two:]

I got a love jonz for your body and your skin tone
Five minutes alone I'm already on the bone
Plus I love the fact you got a mind of your own
No need to shop around you got the good stuff at home
Even if I'm locked up North you in the world
Wrapped in three-fourths of cloth never showin your stuff off, boo
It be true me for you that's how it is
I be your Noah, you be my Wiz
I'm your Mister, you my Mrs. with hugs and kisses
Valentine cards and birthday wishes? Please
Be on another level of planning, of understanding
the bond between man and woman, and child
The highest elevation, cuz we above
All that romance crap, just show your love

Joyce: My favorite line in that song was "We can make war or make babies." That's so profound that there are just no words...

Chip: Ummm...didn't you notice the sarcastic tone in my words when I said no making fun, and then I proceeded to make fun of your choice? And regarding Ozzie...I have a special respect for the point in his career when he shoved his dysfunctional family on television. That was special. =)

Well geez, Steph...just throw it out there, okay? Like, don't have a conversation w/ us or anything!

Ok, seriously "In the Air Tonight"--Phil Collins--no idea why, but it always gives me goosebumps!

"Amazing Grace"--what other song can I sing at the top of my lungs (obviously when i am alone) and sound sooo good singing it?? lol

And I dont even know what "California Dreamin' is! I do however know Ozzy--yes I went to OzFest in Austin (long ago)--purty cool for the time. But dang, isnt he like 100?

Love Skynard (or any other southern rock), and Zepplin--really love anything by Zepplin--lyrics dont jive much with my life, but gotta admit I still like it.

"Black" by Pearl Jam (another oldie)

I like a lot of everything but these are what come to mind.

I do realize what I dork I am for listing California Dreamin'...but I think it holds sentimental value for me, and I can't even remember why?? I am with Michelle...In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins is awesome! I think it may have been one of Mel's too (if she would ever show up to participate, since she's the reason I wrote this entry!!!). I like Zepplin and Van Morrison as well...who was it that sang "Sweet Home Alabama"? I'm very fond of most of the songs from Forrest Gump...just loved that Vietnam time period...Credence Clearwater Revival does something to me.

Better late than never!!!

My number one without a doubt is "Let It Be" by the Beatles. After that, the rest are not ranked - "Against All Odds" by Phil Collins, "Cryin'" by Aerosmith, "My Little Heaven" by Pat Green and "Hang" by Matchbox Twenty.

Y'all can make fun of my choices 'til the cows come home...I don't care. I have found a certain inner peace since reaching the decision of my top five.

On a side note...nothin' but love for Ozzy! War Pigs is teetering on Ernie's list. Big fan myself.

On another side note...it hurts my heart that Michelle does not know California Dreamin'. Kelly - you should take care of that as quickly as possible.
